Free agent guard Ware signs with London Lions of Canada

Former guard of Louisville and Georgia Kevin Ware has signed a contract with the London Lions of the Canadian National Basketball League, the club announced.

Ware, 27, is best remembered for breaking his leg while attempting to parry a shot in an NCAA Elite Eight game against Duke in 2013. The open fracture protruded several inches from his skin.

The surgery that followed took two hours and resulted in the insertion of a rod in the shin bone. At the time, Ware was receiving social media support from NBA greats such as LeBron James is Carmelo Anthony.

Ware completed his college career at Georgia State after moving out of Louisville in 2014 and was not selected in the 2016 NBA Draft.

“Kevin is a special person, he has known adversity and has seen it for what it is, just another obstacle,” Lions owner / coach Vince Macauley he said in a statement. “He’s an NBA-level talent, I think he needs the right team around him and the right people.”

Ware stands 1.8 meters tall and plays in both guard positions. He has also spent time in polay professionally in Finland and Greece.
