FC Bayern: The racism scandal goes to court – sport

It was a surprising choice of words that FC Bayern used to comment on an unpleasant affair that occupied the German record champions while they were winning the Champions League in Lisbon. According to a report by the WDR magazine, a youth coach in the youth training center Sport Inside Accused of racist ideas and use of racist language in connection with the sighting and engagement of youth players. And the club announced just before the semi-finals of the tournament in Lisbon that the employment relationship with the coach had been “mutually agreed”. A seemingly peaceful agreement after allegations that shook the most important German football club?

Now, around two and a half weeks later, it becomes clear that the separation between the long-time coach and the club probably had little to do with agreement – and that FC Bayern will deal with the process of coming to terms with the scandal in its campus-named youth center in court.

During the week, the lawyer of the accused youth coach, the Essen labor lawyer Christian Nohr, filed a lawsuit against the dismissal before the labor court. He complains about alleged formal errors of FC Bayern in the termination and the time limit of the contract. Above all, however, he makes serious accusations against FC Bayern, which he accuses of “deceit and threat” among other things. The first reported on Saturday Sports show.

Why did an agreement even come about after the termination without notice?

The chronology of the dispute between coach and club goes like this: On August 13, two days after the first report, the club wrote a letter of resignation. However, four days later, a so-called termination and resolution agreement was signed. Nohr describes it in such a way that his client was put under inadmissible pressure. He was told he had to sign the agreement within an hour, otherwise his name would be published in a notice on the club website. According to the lawyer, his client signed out of fear. The name of the trainer was not mentioned in the brief statement, which was soon to be read about the amicable separation.

The question now is why this agreement came about at all after termination without notice. Because FC Bayern feared that the termination might not be lawful? At least this is the opinion of attorney Nohr. He also accuses FC Bayern that the club had known about the allegations for a long time, but had not warned his client. Among other things, the club had anonymous letters of complaint about the coach. In these, however, a racism allegation was only discussed in passing, instead the controversial methods of the coach were denounced. In any case, FC Bayern reported on Saturday via a law firm: “The allegations are false.”

From circles of the club it is also said that the agreement came about for a completely different reason: It was rather on the initiative of the coach, who was represented by another lawyer at the time. Which portrayal corresponds to the truth is likely to be negotiated before the labor court at a quality date. Then it should also be about what it is always about in such cases: a possible severance payment. And above all, it may be about the more fundamental questions that are important for the club. “Anyone who tolerates racist shit has no business in our club,” says a banner that fans put up on campus in the middle of the week.
