Eric Thames of the Nationals: won’t start on Tuesday

Thames (back) is not in training against the Mets on Tuesday.

Thames lost a couple of intrasquad games over the weekend, though it’s unclear if the backlog is actually the reason for his absence on Tuesday. Lefty Steven Matz will leave for the Mets, and Thames hasn’t started against any of the top two southpaws the internationals have faced this season. Howie Kendrick will start at first base, with Asdrubal Cabrera serving as the designated hitter.
