Eric Abidal follows Quique Setien out of Barcelona

Barcelona announced on Tuesday that sporting director Eric Abidal will leave, following coach Quique Setien out of Camp Nou.

It was reported on Monday that Abidal would remain at the club, but the Frenchman is now ready to leave after two years of work.

“FC Barcelona and Éric Abidal have reached an agreement for the end of the contract that united the two parties.

“The Club would like to publicly thank Éric Abidal for his professionalism, commitment, dedication and the close and positive nature of his relationship with all aspects of the Blaugrana family.”

Abidal’s departure is Barcelona’s latest change following Bayern Munich’s pounding in the Champions League.

Barca have promised a “broader first-team restructuring” following Setien’s dismissal with Ronald Koeman expected to arrive as the club’s new manager this week.
