The league office has officially said nothing about Jacob Blake’s murder. One of the top officers in the league office did.

Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent, appearing Thursday morning on ESPN Radio, addressed the subject that encompasses the sport and our national discourse, in a very raw, heartfelt and emotional way.

This shit is – it’s got to endVincent said. “I am so proud of these young boys. These young men and women. They did things I never thought they would do. I’ve always walked for the community, but during my time we thought we had a grip and obviously we didn’t.

Vincent’s voice broke as he spoke of the personal relevance of this question to him.

“[W]hen I saw Doc Rivers and Lebron [James] and George Hill, I think about my three boys and I sit here every day about contact tracing and how we’re going to play ball, and I’m 22 and 20 and a 15 -year-year that I’m trying to keep from being kicked out, ”Vincent said. “And these are learning times and I trust my Lord, trust Him. I’m just proud of what the men and women do. As we would say, a unified people would always defeat unified money. And I’m just proud. I am proud.”
