The Serbian tennis player, Novak Djokovic, number one in the world, once again used the quarterfinals of the Masters 1,000 Cincinnati to prepare his great goal of the US Open and with a 6-3 and 6-1 victory against the German Jan-Lennard, he reached the semifinals and was joined an exclusive club of tournament winners.
He also remained undefeated so far this season with a perfect record of 21-0 when in the semifinal faces the Spanish Roberto Bautista, eighth seed, who starred in the great comeback of the day by beating in three sets 1-6, 6-4 and 6-3, the Russian Daniil Medvedev, third seeded, who defended the champion title.
Djokovic, who is going to contest the eighth semifinal of the Cincinnati Masters 1,000, joined the American Jimmy Connors, the Swede Stefan Edberg, the Swiss Roger Federer and the local Bill Talbert as those who have played them the most times.
The world number one, who won the tournament in 2018, only needed 62 minutes to overtake Struff, 34 in the ATP rankings, in what was the fourth duel between the two, dominating 4-0.
If the 33-year-old Serbian player manages to become champion of the tournament, he will equal Rafael Nadal’s record of 35 Masters 1000 trophies.
“It was great. I started a little tight in my first couple of service games … Since I made that break at the beginning of the first set, I never looked back and it was all straightforward,” stated Djokovic. “He really played very aggressive every time he got a chance and went for my shots.”
The 17-time Grand Slam champion’s undefeated streak is now 24 matches, including a 21-0 record this season.
Now, Djokovic will try to reach his seventh final of the Cincinnati Masters 1000, when tomorrow, Thursday, he will face Bautista Agut for the twelfth time, with whom he has a favorable record of 8-3, but in the last three games he has lost two to him. Spanish, all played on hard court.
“We always hope that Roberto (Bautista Agut) will play at a certain level,” said Djokovic. «It doesn’t fall much. He does not give it away. You have to earn your points. He is so solid from the back of the court … Roberto found a way against Medvedev and that is obviously a virtue of the champions.
