Diego Simeone, ‘soap opera player’ on the sidelines

Lisbon

Diego Simeone’s eccentric behavior on the sidelines during the RB Leipzig vs Atletico Madrid duel was teased. He is considered like a soap opera player.

The Champions League quarter-finals bring together Leipzig against Atletico at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, Friday (14/8/2020) in the morning WIB. Both teams played with high tension from the early minutes of the match.

The intense heat of the match on the field even spread to the sidelines. Simeone as the Atletico tactician was seen arguing with Julian Nagelsmann, the Leipzig coach, when the two teams still drew 0-0 in the first half.

Simeone’s emotional demeanor on the sidelines did not stop there. The Argentine coach often waved his hands as if asking the referee to give a card for the Leipzig players and he always kicked the ball at Atletico’s side every time a ball came out.

In the second half, The red bulls scored two goals by Dani Olmo and Tyler Adams. Meanwhile, Atletico were only able to score one goal via Joao Felix’s penalty. The match ends with a score of 2-1 for Leipzig who are entitled to one ticket to the semifinals.

Rio Ferdinand’s actions on the sidelines apparently received a response from Rio Ferdinand after the Leipzig vs Atletico match. The former Manchester United player did not hesitate to call Simeone a ‘crazy person’ for his behavior, as well as praising him as a great coach.

“He’s a crazy person! You can see for yourself; he’s like a soap opera player,” Ferdinand told BT Sport, reported from Daily Star.

“You can stand there watching him and he will talk to you through the emotions he shows. He is a really great competitor, a little like when he was playing,” added Ferdinand.

“His team reflects his personality and that is a sign that he is a fantastic coach,” said Ferdinand.
