A baseball season like we’ve never seen it produced a piece you’ve probably never seen.
It happened Monday night in the fifth inning of the Colorado Rockies’ 3-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field.
The D’backs ‘Ketel Marte jumped into left field where the Rockies’ Raimel Tapia caught the ball and threw the ball at first baseman Daniel Murphy as Kole Calhoun struggled to get back into the pocket. The ball escaped Murphy and Calhoun started at second base. Except that Rockies catcher Tony Wolters was right there, supporting the game, and having Calhoun in a bad place.
When Wolters threw to second base, Calhoun stuck his head in the path of the throw and the ball bounced off his batting helmet. Calhoun couldn’t get away with the shenanigans and was called. Inning over.
It’s a piece that has to be seen to be believed.
LOL.
After the game, Rockies manager Bud Black said Calhoun’s game reminded him of Reggie Jackson twisting his hip to distract a throw in the 1978 World Series.
Here’s the infamous piece by Jackson:
While the Rockies suffered a loss of seven games with their win on Monday night, the Diamondbacks have now lost six times in a row.
