At the beginning of the Corona crisis, football felt inviolable. Now he is in a relegation battle. Politicians do what they want with him. And the DFB is barely visible. He shut himself down.

MThis week arkus Söder showed football how to play with it. As the father of Bavaria, he basked in the shine of the handle pot on Monday. FC Bayern brought it to Munich after winning the Champions League. Three days later, Söder, as a Corona crisis manager in the Berlin Chancellery, coolly showed German football the red card for its plan to be able to play at least in front of a few spectators for the new Bundesliga season. In the decision of the Chancellor and the 16 Prime Ministers, football had sunk to any arbitrary bargaining chip in the large corona package. Politicians have understood that they can now do whatever they want with football: petting or kicking, depending on the usefulness and shape of the day. King football has abdicated.

The ghost games in the German federal leagues will be extended until at least the end of October, possibly until the end of the year, due to the recent increase in the number of infections. Until then, all other major events have also been canceled. Nobody can know when a full stadium, in which people are screaming, singing, hugging and kissing, will again be perceived as a sign of love for life. The air is out of football as an emotional mass experience.
