De Graafschap starts season with victory in goal-rich duel with Den Bosch | NOW

De Graafschap started the season in the Kitchen Champion Division with a victory. The team of trainer Mike Snoei defeated FC Den Bosch on Monday in a goal-rich duel at the Vijverberg 4-2.

De Graafschap could not yet live up to the status of the title candidate in the first half. The home team escaped a goal against a number of times, but took the lead just before half time by a header from Toine van Huizen from a corner.

After Den Bosch came alongside in the 53rd minute due to an own goal from Julian Lelieveld, De Graafschap stepped up a gear. Daryl van Mieghem gave the Doetinchem team the lead after an hour of play, after which Elmo Lieftink made it 3-1 almost immediately afterwards.

It broke the resistance of Den Bosch, after which substitute Jonathan Opoku made it 4-1 ten minutes before the end with a dry bang. Jizz Hornkamp made the stand even more bearable for the visitors.

De Graafschap was second in the Kitchen Champion Division last season when the competition was definitively stopped due to the corona pandemic. The team thus saw a direct promotion place go up in smoke.

The game between Den Bosch and De Graafschap was the last game in the first round of play in the Kitchen Champion Division over four days (and different times). Excelsior and NAC, who started with a 6-1 win over Jong PSV and Jong AZ respectively, share the lead.
