Cycling: Public prosecutor’s office investigates after a fall – sport

After the serious fall of the Dutch professional cyclist Fabio Jakobsen on the first stage of the Tour of Poland, the public prosecutor’s office has initiated an investigation. The authority wants to find out whether someone is to blame for the injury to Jacob and an employee, or whether they were the result of an accident.

“So far we have heard three witnesses, including a representative of the organizers of the race,” said a spokeswoman for the Katowice public prosecutor’s office on Thursday evening, according to the PAP news agency. Other witnesses should be heard, and the prosecutor wants to analyze the evidence. The police had previously seized material, including the bikes of the professional cyclists and video recordings of the accident.

Jakobsen crashed straight into the barriers at high speed in the finish sprint of the first stage on Wednesday and remained motionless. The 23-year-old had been pushed away by his compatriot Dylan Groenewegen.

Jakobsen survived a five-hour operation and was placed in an artificial coma from which he has now awakened. “We have good news from the hospital in Sosnowiec. Fabio Jakobsen is now awake after the coma. His condition is good,” said the tour organizers on Twitter on Friday. According to the PAP news agency, representatives of the hospital want to speak about the condition of the racing cyclist at a press conference in the afternoon.
