In the round of 16 of the Champions League, the surprise is perfect. Juventus Turin fail despite two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo at Olympique Lyon. Real Madrid also have to give up after blatant mistakes.
Juventus Turin was surprisingly eliminated from the Champions League round of 16. The team could not make up for the 1-0 win against outsiders Olympique Lyon despite two goals from superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. The Italians won the second leg 2-1, but because of the away goal rule, the French are in the quarter-finals.
Lyons Memphis Depay (12th) gave the visitors an early lead with a penalty. He casually chipped the ball into the middle of the goal. Ronaldo turned the game around with a hand penalty (43rd) and a remarkable long-range shot (60th). Turin then pushed for the third goal, but it was not enough, also because Lyon was able to free itself again and again from the grip.
As in the previous year, the round of the last 16 is the last stop for Real Madrid. The Spaniards had lost the first meeting with Manchester City in their own stadium 1: 2, the second leg in England ended with the same result.
Varane is responsible for both goals
City benefited from blatant mistakes by Raphael Varane on both goals. The Real defender lost the ball recklessly and invited Raheem Sterling (9th minute) and later Gabriel Jesus (68th) to their goals. Karim Benzema (28th) had meanwhile equalized for Madrid.

In the round of the last eight teams, Lyon and Manchester will meet on August 15th in Lisbon. The round of 16 will be concluded on Saturday with the duels between FC Bayern and FC Chelsea (first leg 3-0) and SSC Napoli against FC Barcelona (1-1).
