Covid-19: suspected case at OM, friendly match against Stuttgart canceled

This is one more hitch in OM’s preparation for the coming season. The friendly match which was to be played Friday in Fos-sur-Mer between the Marseillais and the Germans of Vfb Stuttgart was canceled Thursday, announced the OM. “The latest tests carried out revealed a suspicion of a positive case of Covid-19 within the workforce,” explains the club in a statement published Thursday evening on its official website.

“For several weeks, the club’s players have been tested several times a week,” recalls Olympique de Marseille, stressing that the club’s staff “wished to take no risk and decided not to play this meeting”. According to RMC Sport, it was Olympian defender Jordan Amavi who tested positive during the day.

More than a week before the resumption

This is already the second friendly game canceled for the Marseille club in this pre-season. The meeting scheduled against Montpellier on August 5 had been canceled the day before, this time due to a probable case of Covid-19 in the ranks of the MHSC.

The Marseillais are due to play their first home league game against Saint-Etienne on August 21. This is the opening match of this 2020-2021 Ligue 1 season. Eight days before this meeting, OM has for the moment no longer any preparation match on its calendar.
