Chelsea have presented a new offer for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, according to reports.

Frank Lampard is eager to add another cap to his ranks to provide competition at the number 1 under fire Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Mendy impressed in Rennes last season and Chelsea goalkeepers manager Christophe Lollicho is a fan of the 28-year-old.

Goal France claim Chelsea have submitted a £ 18m offer for Mendy after seeing a £ 15m opening offer rejected.

Rennes are determined to retain control of Mendy after playing a key role in his squad by finishing third in Ligue 1 last season and securing the Champions League.

Mendy arrived in Rennes just a year ago and is under contract with the French team until 2023.

Lampard oversaw a major overhaul of his squad this summer and made several high profile signings.

Forwards Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech were also signed and made their first appearances for Chelsea on Saturday against Brighton.

Chelsea are also expected to get close to a big money transfer for Bayer Leverkusen forward Kai Havertz.
