Carmelo Anthony says he wants to stay with the Trail Blazers

In the wake of the Portland Trail Blazers’ first round defeat to the Los Angeles Lakers, free agent Carmelo Anthony said he considers Portland a good choice and “prays” that he can reach a deal with the team next season.

In a televised post-match press conference, Anthony said he wasn’t considering retiring, adding how much he enjoyed being part of the Blazers organization, which allowed him to be who he is.

“I consider myself back already, so it’s not even something I’ve thought about,” Anthony said.

“Whenever you find a situation that is comfortable for you and allows you to be who you are, you want to stay in that situation, there is no need to try different things.

“If we give ourselves a chance to keep this team together, get the kids healthy and give it another try.”

While a number of factors will determine the Portland team’s appearance next season, this is the most emphatic Anthony has had about his future in basketball since joining the Blazers in November.

Terry Stotts also spoke about his experience as manager of 36-year-old Anthony post-match.

Anthony has averaged 15.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 58 regular-season appearances for the Blazers this season.
