BMW Championship: Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay in front – Golf – PGA Tour

Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay share the lead in the BMW Championship, the second stage of the FedEx Cup play-offs, on Friday after the second round.

On the course of the Olympia Fields Country Club, the Northern Irishman offered himself 5 birdies for 3 bogeys.

« The course has become a little firmer over the day and therefore more complicated. The wind has also picked up. I gave up a few shots on the way but I think on a course like this playing below par is very satisfying. »

With a card of 69 (-1), the world number 4, winner of the BMW in 2012 on the Crooked Stick Golf Club, finds himself in the lead at -1.

For his part, Patrick Cantlay, also leader, signed the best card of the day. A 68 (-2) punctuated by an eagle, four birdies but also a double and two bogeys. The two-time winner on the PGA Tour is also -1 overall.

« On this course you must be aware that you are going to make mistakes. The bogeys arrive very quickly because the route is very complicated. But we must move on and immediately forget the mistakes made. It is really very important. »

At one pitch, we find the new world No. 1 Dustin Johnson and Hideki Matsuyama. The two men are in the par total.

Woods, the final goes away

Far from the lead, in 55th place, Tiger Woods had a very difficult Friday. The former world number one made a heavy card of 75 (+5) weighed down by a double, five bogeys and two birdies only.

At this rate, we don’t see how the man with 15 Majors, who needs a top 5 this week, could qualify for the Tour Championship, which takes place in Atlanta (Georgia) from September 4 to 7 and which will only concern the FedEx top 30 at the end of the tournament.
