Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Barcelona called would allow Lionel Messi leave for free on condition that the superstar does not play during the 2020/2021 season.
According to sources quoted by ESPN, Barcelona provided a way for Messi to leave Camp Nou as long as he released his salary for one season.
In addition, Messi is also not allowed to sign a contract with a new club until the middle of next year or before the 2021/2022 season coincides with the end of his contract at the Catalan club.
In the contract signed by Messi and Barcelona in 2017, Messi is said to have the opportunity to leave without payment (free transfer) at the end of each season. Messi has also expressed his desire to leave in August or before the 2019/2020 season which was affected by the pandemic ends.
But Barcelona said the player was late in activating the free transfer clause which was valid until June and stated that every club wishing to sign Messi had to pay a purchase clause worth 700 million euros.
Messi’s legal team has denied that La Pulga has unilaterally canceled his contract with the club. For that reason Messi did not appear at the medical and training sessions on Sunday (30/8) and Monday (31/8).
Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, and Messi’s father, Jorge Messi, are scheduled to meet on Wednesday (2/9) to discuss the future of the record-breaking figure at the Blaugrana.
Barcelona is said to be offering a contract extension until 2023, while Messi’s side is alleged to have confirmed their desire to leave Spain.
