How hard it was for Novak Djokovic! The world No. 1 had to overcome stomach and neck pain to defeat Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut 4-6 6-4 7-6 (7/0) and qualify for his 7th Cincinnati Masters 1000 final.
The Spaniard (ATP 12), excellent from the baseline, was a very tough opponent, but it was physical glitches that clearly bothered Djokovic, appearing to be suffering from his stomach towards the end of the 3rd set, while he led 5-3, after having to involve the physiotherapist to have his neck manipulated in the middle of the 2nd. It was finally in the tie-break, won 7-0 (!) That the world No. 1 managed to make the difference.
“I don’t know how I won to be honest. He was the best player today. I just didn’t feel good, either physically or in my game, but I managed to get over it. go out”, commented the Serb briefly afterwards.
In the final, “Djoko” will have to beat Milos Raonic (ATP 30), who defeated the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6 (7/5) 6-3, to try to win this tournament for the second time, relocated to New York. This would constitute his 35th Masters 1000 title, a record that only Rafael Nadal holds for the time being.
