Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang risked the ire of Arsenal fans by admitting to supporting Manchester United as a child, being particularly in love with Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole.

The 31-year-old is the subject of much speculation right now as his future at Arsenal is discussed.

The prolific striker has been offered a gigantic new deal with the Gunners, with his current contract expiring next year, and while he has yet to sign anything, a deal is thought to be near.

While he may stay in the Emirates, it was actually his dream to play for Manchester United as he grew up, inspired by the collaboration of Cole and Yorke, which tore down defenses before and after the turn of the millennium.

Asked by Astro Stadium the first team he supported, Aubameyang, said: ‘Manchester United when I was a child.

‘I remember the duo, Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke. The team was sick at the time, I think this was the first team I supported. ‘

Arsenal fans might not be happy to know that their captain was a Red Devils fan as a child, but he wasn’t a Manchester United player who watched more when learning the game.

The Gabon national was instead inspired by Ronaldo, an icon of Brazil, Barcelona, Inter and Real Madrid, who according to Aubameyang has changed the game of forwards.

“Ronaldo, the Brazilian one,” Aubameyang said of his football icon. ‘For me it changed the game.

‘How to play football for a striker, I remember playing like crazy, he can do everything.

‘Fast, very strong, so good with his feet, so fast, he had it all. He could have scored a header, he could do anything. ‘

Arsenal want to settle Aubameyang’s contract situation as soon as possible, having offered their captain a deal until 2023 and a significant increase in his current salary of £ 200,000 a week.

The former Borussia Dortmund player scored 29 goals in all competitions last season, bringing his Gunners tally to a superb 70 goals in 109 games.
