ZAC WILLIAMS ‘A GIANT FOR LIFE’?
Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron believes his side are in “a good position” to re-sign out-of-contract defender Zac Williams, who is reportedly being pursued by Carlton for 2021 and beyond.
Williams has left a five-year deal from the Giants on the table, with other clubs likely to be able to offer him more money than his current club, which is faced with a tight salary cap as it seeks to re-sign several current and emerging stars.
Keep talking Whateley from SENCameron said the signs are positive.
“I think our club is in a good position. I mean, we have a really good dialogue with Zac,” he said.
“We have been in these positions for most of the years since I was a coach. There are always one or two or three players who are out of contract and are heavily attacked by clubs across Australia. We have loved every minute since he arrived. He is a very valued player and we are confident that he will be a giant for life.
“We understand there will be speculation by then, but it’s nothing new that we deal with every year.”
When asked if Williams’ asking price of allegedly over $ 700,000 a year would prove difficult, Cameron replied “absolutely not.”
TEX STILL HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY AT OTHER CLUBS
The great Leigh Montagna of St. Kilda believes Adelaide veteran Taylor Walker has “a year or two of good footy” left to offer other clubs.
Walker is under contract with the Crows until the end of 2021, but the former captain has himself spoken openly about the possibility of splitting up at the end of the year while the club continues its rebuilding.
I am talking about Fox Footy’s First crackMontagna suggested two clubs that the 30-year-old could serve well.
“I still think Tex Walker has another year or two of good footy in him. I just think he’s playing a role that doesn’t fit his style of football, ”he said.
“He’s the perfect third great striker for me. He’s the one who runs half a striker’s cross and is a beautiful user. He can set goals. I still think he has to play a role in another club.
“The two clubs that come to mind at this point are Brisbane and the Gold Coast Suns. I think someone like Gold Coast who already has Ben King who we know is going to be a star. They used Sam Day who was really good this year. Maybe Tex Walker with his guidance and experience, something other than a path to the goal.
“Or Brisbane Lions if they try to win that flag with the two young key strikers they have.”
FORMER CROWS ASSISTANT COACH CHIMES IN
Former Adelaide assistant coach Scott Camporeale believes the club should consider trading free agent Kyle Hartigan and removing at least four players from the list this off-season.
Camporeale was fired from the club in late 2019 following an outside review along with the club’s chief executive Brett Burton.
Keep talking ABC grandstandCamporeale gave an honest assessment of how the Crows could maximize their off-season, with Hartigan topping the list.
“I think Kyle is someone who might have some value to help a key defender move forward with. With McAsey and Butts as key defenders, they also have Daniel Talia for another 12 months, ”said Camporeale.
“Hartigan’s the one, he played really well against (Tom) Hawkins and still has some value.
“I think he’s his age looking for a two or three year contract. If you talk about it in the (Premiership) window, he’s 28, his body hasn’t really been healthy for two years. Just go? Let’s see if we get some value and make some space for the cap as we move forward. “
Camporeale also said he would move on to Riley Knight, David Mackay, Patrick Wilson and Jordan Galluci.
