5 takeaways from Saturday’s scrum at Bears training camp

The Chicago Bears were supposed to face the Denver Broncos in their second preseason game on Saturday. Instead, the Bears took things up a notch with a scrum during practice.

Most of the practice was 11-11, which saw quarterbacks Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles take the lead in quarterback competition. Some players were also absent from training.

Here are five takeaways from Saturday’s scrum at camp:

1. The bears are still waiting for Trubisky or Foles to run away with the battle of QB

It’s a week away in this quarterback battle between Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles, and neither quarterback has done anything to legitimately separate from the other. Of course, Trubisky was the one to beat Foles most of the time in practice. But not by much. Which is a problem with the season opening just 21 days.

While both quarterbacks made some great plays, there were also a few blunders from Trubisky and Foles. Whether it was Trubisky going out of bounds and taking a sack or Foles throwing the camp’s first interception. Sooner rather than later, one of them must take over.

The hope is that Trubisky and Foles just aren’t great players in training and that a light comes on when they get onto the pitch. Luckily there are pre-season games at… oh, wait.
