Willian offers a transfer solution for Liverpool as the difficult summer market is waiting for you

Liverpool’s decision not to sign Timo Werner has shown that the club is unwilling to spend large sums this summer on just one player. Given the still unknown real financial impact of the global coronavirus pandemic, the summer transfer plans could possibly be revised.

The club is no stranger to a bargain or even a free transfer, as it has successfully completed some of the past few windows that have proven to be extremely fruitful, and speculation about who could target Liverpool is still buzzing. Last week’s gossip column connects her to the winger of the wolves, Adama Traore.

But what about Willian?

The Brazilian will be a free agent with his Chelsea contract this summer and could be a cheap option in terms of a transfer fee. In fact, it would give Klopp additional depth at a time when it was most needed.

Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are inviolable as the first line of attack in Liverpool, but with Xherdan Shaqiri’s future uncertain and Takumi Minamino taking time to adjust, Willian could be a proven support.

It would also be a cheap signature at a time when the Reds appear to be counting the pennies and coming to represent Klopp’s favorites, as Origi and Shaqiri have done in previous seasons.

Of course, Liverpool should be careful to offer Willian a long-term contract if they want to take a step.

The Brazilian winger will be 32 in August, and his commitment would represent a temporary departure from the transfer strategy that the Anfield Club has used to target some of the best and best young talents in the game.

Indeed, his contract and free signing could also prove problematic, but if the Reds manage to outsource other high-income earners, this could only be feasible.

After all, these are exceptional times, and Liverpool may have to deviate from its previously intended path to protect itself.

Willian’s signing would fill the gap for the Anfield Club between this challenging situation and a time when they can appeal to the kind of players who offer long-term solutions.

Liverpool is smarter than most of the others in the transfer market. Their success rate in relation to new signings in recent years has been remarkable. Almost every player who was brought in through the door contributed as planned.

This was achieved through good scouting and strong execution on the market itself.

The Reds may not be operating in the same way on the transfer market this summer, let alone with the same ambition.

You have to be pragmatic and Willian’s signing would be pragmatic. That is a positive thing. There are a number of reasons to believe that the Anfield Brazilian would bring something valuable to the table.
