In 2017, Chris Quinn wore a skirt after being invited to play a point in Wimbledon.

Wimbledon was demolished this year for the first time since World War II amid the coronavirus pandemic, but fans are reliving some of the iconic Grand Slam moments on social media. The oldest tennis tournament in the world is known for its green grass courts and strict dress codes. In 2017, dress code rules led to a memorable moment when Belgian tennis star Kim Clijsters invited a male fan to put on a skirt and play a point. Wimbledon recalled the viral moment in a return video shared this Friday on social media and left viewers separate once again.

During a 2017 women’s double-invitation tennis match – an exhibition for fans to see elderly or retired players – Clijsters invited a fan from the stands to play a point. That’s how Irish resident Chris Quinn found himself unexpectedly challenged on the pitch, reports the BBC.

After inviting him to court, Kim Clijsters realized that the fan was violating the dress rules and grabbed a white skirt to wear over his shorts. Chris Quinn wore the skirt sportily at a time when he switched to tournament history books. The scene had the whole place in two and even Clijsters was shot laughing.

“In 2017, a viral moment in The Championships with Kim Clijsters would forever change a fan’s life …” Wimbledon wrote on Facebook as he shares the return video, which also shows Chris talking about how the moment has changed his life. The video is part of “Wimbledon Recreated”, a campaign to celebrate the fortnight of 2020 in the absence of this year’s championships.
