Ladies, – I really liked Tamaini Carayol’s article on Chris Evert’s career (“The star who helped revolutionize women’s tennis”, Sport, July 1. The photograph that accompanies her by raising her arms while celebrating the title of Wimbledon from 1981 while holding onto a wooden racket brought memories: Irish grass pitches, wrong bounces, a slightly deformed wooden racket and tennis tea. I often wondered how today’s professional tennis players they would have behaved playing with similar pre-80s wooden tennis rackets. an interesting game, set and game. yours, etc.
