Washington WR Kelvin Harmon to miss 2020 season with ripped ACL

Washington wide receiver Kelvin Harmon suffered a torn ACL in mid-June and will miss the 2020 season, leaving the shorthanded team to a position where they have already faced questions.

Harmon said on Twitter that he had surgery on his right knee last week. He also said that he injured his leg a month ago. Another source said he was injured while working in the Ashburn area, preparing for training camp.

Harmon would compete for a starting job against Terry McLaurin. The team drafted wide receiver Antonio Gandy-Golden in the fourth round of the draft in April. Washington also has Steven Sims back in the slot. But it lacks proven depth and the whole group will be one of Washington’s biggest question marks for the season.

Of the 12 remaining Washington receivers, only one – Cody Latimer – has played more than three seasons. And Latimer is on the bubble after being arrested in May and charged with five crimes resulting from an alleged incident during a poker game. No catcher has caught more than 70 Latimer career passes.

Harmon, a sixth round pick in 2019, added size and physical presence to 6 feet 2 inches and 215 pounds. He was Washington’s best race blocker and was often used inside the red zone due to his ability to break tackles to gain additional yards.

Harmon caught 30 passes for 365 yards last season, but didn’t score.
