US Open plans reportedly suffered a devastating blow with Citi Open ready to cancel due to travel problem

The Washington Open is reportedly on the verge of being forced to cancel in a coup that could also end hopes that the US Open will move forward.

The Citi Open, which is usually held in Washington, was moved to Meadows flushing this year for security reasons due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It is currently scheduled to be the event that heralds the return of the ATP Tour in early August, as scheduled to be directed by Daniil Medvedev, Kei Nishikori and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

However, Sunday evening social media reports said he was ready to announce that he would be canceled this week.

The main reason within the relationship it is the decision of the European Union to keep the border with the United States closed. The players could have traveled there, but would have to quarantine for two weeks on their return to Europe.

However, with the European clay season starting immediately after the U.S. swing, this would mean that anyone who performed at the US Open would be forced to lose the Madrid Masters and the Rome Masters.

These are prestigious full-fledged events, but would not allow players to prepare for the rescheduled French Open.

From a ranking position, the European clay season is more valuable for players than the U.S. swing, so it’s hard to imagine essentially eliminating them.

A final decision as to whether the US Open can move forward is slated for late July, but without the biggest player names it seems unlikely they will go ahead.
