At the start of the new Bundesliga season, 1. FC Union Berlin is striving to “fully utilize” its stadium at the Alte Försterei. Corona tests should be paid for all fans.

FBundesliga soccer team 1. FC Union Berlin wants to run into a full stadium at the start of the new season despite the coronavirus pandemic. As the club announced on Friday, there should be “full capacity” at the latest from the first day of the 2020/21 season.

This ambitious goal is to be achieved with the help of corona tests for all 22,012 cardholders and all those present on site. “You can then access the stadium with a valid ticket and a negative test result, which must not be older than 24 hours at the time the stadium is closed,” the message said.

“Our stadium experience does not work at a distance, and if we are not allowed to sing and scream, it is not Union. At the same time, the safety of our visitors and employees is at the center of our considerations, ”said club president Dirk Zingler in the message. “We want to ensure as best as possible that nobody gets infected in our sold-out stadium – this applies to Unioners and equally to guest fans.”

Implementing such a concept is “an enormous organizational and economic challenge that we are happy to take on with all our might,” emphasized Zingler and announced that the association would bear the costs for this project itself.

Various options are currently being explored so that the sufficient test capacities can be used within 24 hours. As soon as the framework conditions become more concrete, Union wants to present the concept to the authorities. There are many hurdles to overcome, so major events with more than 1000 people are currently prohibited in the capital until October 24th. The start of the new Bundesliga season is scheduled for September 18.
