This summer’s transfer window promises to be quite different from what we’ve seen in recent memory.
With the coronavirus crisis putting a strain on finances both across the world of football and beyond, clubs will have to get creative as they plan and plan their approach for the 2020/21 season.
Some parts – with Chelsea being the obvious example – seem to be flying in the face of any restrictions, with the Blues having already obtained the signatures of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner for the new campaign.
But others seem to have been forced to rethink their plans, with new Premier League champions Liverpool abandoning their move for Werner and appear ready to study the market closely before making any moves this summer.
The Reds have been linked in a move to Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, with Manchester United also claiming to have an interest in the former Barcelona man.
United obviously has other goals, with Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish also at the top of their list of potential summer recruits, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also aiming for both the central defender and the midfielder to improve his team as Champions League chasers.
There will certainly be exaggerations even from the big clubs, as the teams plan to make changes sooner than they hope will be a more conventional season on the horizon.
