Top 14: Racing 92’s turn to find an agreement on lower wages

Only one is missing. Almost all the Top 14 clubs have obtained from their players and their staff a reduction in salaries to cope with the economic consequences of the Covid-19 health crisis and the cessation of competitions. Only Agen has not yet followed suit. Since Thursday, Racing 92 has indeed followed in the footsteps of its fellow residents of the elite of French rugby.

According to a press release from the club, the players and staff members have reached an agreement to lower their emoluments. “At the end of a very broad consultation, all the players, the staff and the governance of the club, have decided, in responsibility, to show total solidarity with the financial effort necessary to help Racing 92 to overcome the effects of an unprecedented crisis, ”the statement said.

The percentage of the decrease not specified

If Racing evokes “a significant drop in their salaries”, it does not indicate the precise percentage of the effort made by the players. At the neighboring Stade Français Paris, the drop is around 20%.

“We asked our players how they wanted to participate in the war effort, they appointed three representatives who are the three captains (Henry Chavancy, Maxime Machenaud and Teddy Iribaren), racingman president Jacky Lorenzetti said in L’Equipe. The players made a proposal for a substantial reduction in their remuneration, which I accepted. In three days, we had signed about fifty amendments to the various employment contracts, staff included. “

And to continue: “It happened unanimously, with great fluidity and it is a great happiness for me. Financially, it will give a real helping hand and in terms of the state of mind, the club culture, I find remarkable both the effort made and the way to proceed. “
