Three competitors had to leave the race Around Burgos as a precaution

Colombian riders Sebastián Molano, Cristian Muňoz and Camilo Ardila withdrew from the Around Burgos race, the first major cycling event after the coronavirus break, before the second stage on Wednesday. The riders of the UAE Team Emirates stable came into contact with a person infected with covid-19.

According to the stable, Molano, Muňoz and Ardila met the infected person on Saturday outside the peloton. Therefore, they were isolated and sent home, where they will undergo further tests on Wednesday. All previous tests have been negative so far.

Even before Tuesday’s start of the race, the Israeli Start-Up Nation team withdrew from the race because its drivers Itamar Einhorn and Alex Dowsett came into contact with teammate Omer Goldstein. He had a positive test for covid-19 on Monday and entered quarantine.

The second category race, which is attended by Spaniards Alejandro Valverde and Mikel Landa, Italian Fabio Aru, Briton Mark Cavendish and Pole Rafal Majka, will culminate on Saturday’s fifth stage.
