In 2014 and 2015, the Argentine tennis player played only fourteen matches due to difficulties, but in 2016 he shone again in the tournaments. He won silver at the Olympics and won a tournament in Stockholm. Two years later, he climbed to third place after celebrating victory in Acapulco, Indian Wells, and played in the semifinals at the French Open and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. At the US Open, he reached the final for the second time in his career, but this time he did not reach the title, Novak Djokovic was above his strength. But another injury came in the fall.

At the tournament in Shanghai, he broke a patella in his right knee. Four months later, he was back on the courts, but played only three matches. The knee took another break. When it looked like he was in shape again in June, he recovered the fracture of his patella. He underwent another operation this winter and has now started training after rehabilitation.
