The Lakers’ Rajon Rondo suffers a ‘hand injury’ in practice

Los Angeles Lakers guard Rajon Rondo suffered a “significant” hand injury during practice on Sunday evening, according to ESPN sources. Rondo, 34, has undergone a medical evaluation on his hand and thumb, sources said, and the severity of the injury should be known Monday morning.

The Lakers traveled to Orlando for the resumption of the 2019-20 season on Thursday evening and trained for the first time on Saturday.

Rondo, who signed with the Lakers in 2018, lost several weeks during the 2018-19 season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ligament on his right ring finger.

He averages 7.1 points, five assists and three rebounds per game this season. He appeared in 48 games for Los Angeles and started in three.

LA is already without starting guard Avery Bradley, who has given up on restarting the season because of the worries of the coronavirus for his family. The Lakers signed JR Smith as Bradley’s replacement for the rest of the season.
