The head of Bayern Munich lets Thiago Alcantara get in the middle of Liverpool connections

Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick says Thiago Alcantara wants to experience life in a new league amid the ongoing connections to Liverpool.

The 29-year-old has one year left for his current contract with the German champions and came on late on Saturday night in the DFB Cup final victory over Bayer Leverkusen in Berlin, which Bayern won 4-2.

Thiago is also expected to be involved in the final stages of the Champions League when they start in Portugal next month, but he appears to have made the numbers clear that the club would like to experience a new challenge in this phase of his career.

Bayern boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that the club will try to sell the former Barcelona star if it becomes clear that he won’t sign a new contract this summer.

Thiago is expected to leave the club this summer

“Thiago is a great guy on and off the field. We have had serious negotiations with him and met everything he asked for, but it seems he wants to do something new in the last part of his career,” he said to Bild.

“We don’t want to lose a player through a free transfer next year – I’ll make that very clear.”

Flick hopes that Thiago will stay in the club.

“The thing is, I always have hope. I’m actually always very positive,” he told reporters after Saturday’s win.

“Of course I also know that at a certain age, if you have already played in the Spanish league with Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, you have the need to experience another big league. That is pretty.” normal and that’s human too.

“I’m trying my best to make sure that Thiago stays here and that you can convince him to stay. But that’s one thing that time will tell.

“We still have the Champions League ahead of us and we have a lot of plans, including with him.”
