The crowd in the stadium is like Jekyll and Hyde

EA lot can be found in an empty stadium. Championship titles and cup wins. The necessary advertising space for the current contracts, each one a promise of loyalty to better times, sometime after the pandemic. Each one pays for the hope that the money may last until then. But love? Rather not love. Love is not in the empty stadium, and maybe that’s the whole story.

Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht, Stanford professor emeritus and sports fan, has Adriano Celentano step into the old San Siro to prove it. San Siro, the Milan stadium that has officially been called Stadio Giuseppe Meazza since 1980, where Rijkaard spits on Völler in 1990 and wants to send Heribert Faßbender Juan Carlos Loustau to the pampas. Where Rummenigge and then Matthäus, Brehme, Klinsmann play at Inter, Gullit, Rijkaard and Van Basten but at Milan, where they overhaul football with Arrigo Sacchi. The Milan stadium, a monument.
