The Barum Rally will not take place in Zlín in August, it will take place in a year

“At the moment, we do not know what everything would look like if restrictive measures were to apply in our region, which now apply, for example, in the adjacent Moravian-Silesian region,” said Jan Regner, deputy director of the competition, at today’s press conference in Zlín. “We feel that if the 50th year is done next year, it will be dignified. We don’t know if the right decision is yes or no, the future will show us,” Regner admitted.

The final decision that the rally will not take place this year was made today. “So far we have spent about 2.5 million crowns, and if we decided to go, we would have to start paying more contracts. However, the main thing is that we want to race with spectators, have a decent starting field and accompanying program,” said rally director Miloslav Regner with the fact that the organizers also do not want to spoil the reputation they have built.

Fans, help. The organizers are in a tight spot. They warn that the famous competition will not be in the Czech Republic this year

According to Zlín Mayor Jiří Korc, epidemiologists were not inclined to the idea of holding a rally. Traditionally, tens of thousands of motorsport fans came to the region because of it. “But this is bad news for the city of Zlín in terms of tourism and the economy. However, I believe that next year will replace everything for us,” said Korec. “If there were any (health) problems, the inhabitants could point out that they do not want a rally here,” said Miloslav Regner.

Last week, the organizers announced that they were missing about 3.5 million crowns to cover the budget, and they also organized fans for help. But rather symbolically. “In order to verify whether people are behind us. Over 300,000 crowns were collected on a transparent account, other partners contacted us, we felt the support of the mayor of Zlín and Barum. We were able to fulfill the entire amount during the week. However, the risks were great and concern about the fans was the main factor, “said Jan Regner. “My heart said yes, my head no. It was one of the biggest decisions I had to make,” admitted Miloslav Regner.

The Barum Czech Rally Zlín was to take place from 28 to 30 August as the third part of the Czech and European Championships.
