STEIN: NETWORKS TO SIGN DONTA HALL, PISTONS ROOKIE BIG MAN

Marc Stein reports that Nets is signing Donta Hall, a 6’10 “athletic who had a 10-day contract with Pistons when the NBA season ended. Hall will back up Jarrett Allen in the center and will likely get 4 minutes .

Marc Stein was the first with the news …

“(It’s) like a shorter Jarrett Allen,” said John Hollinger of The Athletic. While it may be shorter, Hall has a wingspan of 7’5 “, only half an inch less than Allen’s.

Stein said the nets strongly consider Amir Johnson for their front row vacancy, as reported by the Times earlier this week, but have shifted their focus to Hall after making deals this week to sign veterans Michael Beasley. and Jamal Crawford.

Hall, 22, went out of service in 2019, but played well in the G League for the Pistons affiliate in Grand Rapids. More of a forward power than a center, he is a defensive specialist after joining the G League defense team after being named an All-SEC defense team while playing in Alabama.

Before being called back by pistonsHall averages 15.4 points and 10.6 scoreboards in 28.7 minutes of play. His 3-point shot is limited. It only affected 27 percent less of a game attempt. A great athletic, he also blocked 1.3 shots per game.

Hall only played 48 minutes as 10 days, averaging 1.5 points. Not pulled out of Alabama (where he played all four years under former goalkeeper Avery Johnson), Hall didn’t take basketball seriously until his father died of a heart attack while watching him play in November 2010 , as documented by Ben Bolton of Alabama Sports Network. Hitting a growth spurt that reportedly helped him shoot about nine inches in high school,

Here is the video of him scoring 25 points against the Westchester Knicks …

As a substitute player, Hall will be an unrestricted free agent starting in October.
