Report: Steelers to sign free agent S Curtis Riley

The Pittsburgh Steelers currently have two defensive backs on the Reserve / COVID-19 roster and with one open roster spot to fill, it looks like they’re ready to sign a free agent security

According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Thursday, free agent safety Curtis Riley, who started three games for the Oakland Raiders last season, signed with the Steelers.

Riley, who played his college football at Fresno State, was not drafted in 2015 and initially signed as a free agent with the Tennessee Titans. After three seasons with the Titans, Riley signed a one-year contract with the New York Giants in 2018 and started all 16 games for them this season. In 2019, Riley signed a one-year contract with the Raiders and played all 16 games with them.

For his career, Riley has five interceptions including four coming in his only season with the Giants. Here are those interceptions.

Riley played 262 special team shots for the Raiders in 2019 before recording 3 special team tackles. He only played 275 defensive shots in total for the Raiders in 2019.

On his 2015 professional day, Riley reportedly measured 6,000, 190 pounds. Reports got him running his 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds on his professional day, posting a 38.5-inch vertical jump and a 10’9 “wide jump. His short commute time on his pro day was 4.24 seconds and his time at three cones was 6.72 seconds.

During his two seasons at Fresno State, Riley recorded 98 total tackles, one interception, 15 defensive passes and two forced fumbles.
