As the Washington football team ponders the increasingly likely decision to change its name from the Redskins, the Harlem Globetrotters parent company suggested on Friday that it would be interested in giving the team another option.
According to Darren Rovell of Action Network, a spokesperson for Herschend Entertainment said the company “would like” the Redskins or the NFL to call to buy the rights to the name of the Washington Generals.

The Generals are the Globetrotters’ frequent opponent, almost always at the losing end of the fun basketball competition. Herschend Entertainment owns the trademarks of Generals and Globetrotters.
“We think the Globetrotters are out there as the most loved team in the world with Manchester United and the New York Yankees,” said spokesperson Brett Meister. “Our heritage includes the generals of Washington.”
The generals also have other local ties, as the team’s former owner / coach / player, Red Klotz, was a member of the Baltimore Bullets, title winners in 1948.

The Redtails were a group of airmen from Tuskegee, all-black fighter pilots during the Second World War.
Haskins said “that’s if we have to change the name,” adding that he doesn’t take a position that the team should change the name.
Reports suggest that a name change is likely before the start of the 2020 season.
