Reorganization at Mitchelton-SCOTT after soap with new main sponsor | NOW

Mitchelton-SCOTT has carried out a major reorganization after the failed takeover by the Spanish Manuela Fundación. Team boss Shayne Bannan, who was involved with the Australian cycling team from the start, has left.

Darach McQuaid, the younger brother of former UCI president Pat McQuaid, will take the new position as president, Mitchelton-SCOTT reports on his site on Wednesday. The Irishman will report directly to team owner Gerry Ryan.

Brent Copeland has been hired as the new team boss, succeeding Bannan. The South African comes from Bahrain McLaren, where he had the same position.

Although Bannan is thanked in detail by Ryan in the statement, his departure cannot be separated from the soap with the Manuela Fundación. Mitchelton-SCOTT announced on June 12 via a press release that the Spanish nonprofit would become the new main sponsor and namesake of the WorldTour squad, but six days later Ryan reported that the deal was canceled.

Bannan played an important role in the negotiations with the Manuela Fundación. Former rider Stefano Garzelli, who represented the Spanish organization at the talks, said after the takeover of the takeover, Bannan signed a contract approving the deal.

Ryan’s cycling team started as GreenEDGE Cycling in 2012 and has been called Mitchelton-SCOTT since 2018. The most famous names in the WorldTour men’s team are the British twin brothers Simon and Adam Yates. World champion Annemiek van Vleuten and Janneke Ensing are under contract with the women’s team.
