Rental athletes start in remote games at Inspiration Games

MWith the “Inspiration Games” in six countries at the same time, athletics in the corona crisis has made a comeback. At the premiere of the competition format with remote duels on Thursday evening, however, there was great confusion about Noah Lyles: the world champion ran the 200 meters in America in supposedly 18.90 seconds – which was significantly faster than the world record of superstar Usain Bolt from Berlin 2009 (19.19 ) would have been. After a review, however, it turned out that the American had been assigned a wrong start line – and he only ran 185 meters. “You can’t play with my feelings like that. You gave me the wrong track, ”Lyles wrote shortly afterwards on Twitter.

The rarely run 150 meters was won by the twelve-time world champion and six-time Olympic champion Allyson Felix from America, who ran 16.81 seconds in Walnut / California. In Bradenton, Florida, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, the 400m Olympic champion from the Bahamas, took 17.15 seconds. The Swiss Mujinga Kambundji ran 17.28 seconds in Zurich. “Quite strange,” Felix thought of her solo sprint: “But I love this sport and we want to support it.”

The event was organized by the traditional Zurich meeting. The starting shots were fired there, which were broadcast synchronously to the other stadiums. Competition venues included Lisbon, Papendal / Arnhem in the Netherlands, Aubière in France and Karlstad in Sweden. A total of thirty top athletes competed in eight disciplines. German participants were not at the start.

World champion Sam Kendricks from America took off in Bradenton during the three-way pole vault and crossed 5.81 meters. He remained well below his best performance of 6.06 meters. His brother Valentin jumped for the injured former world record holder Renaud Lavillenie, but failed in France at the entry height of 5.36 meters. World championship third Piotr Lisek from Poland overcame 5.66 meters in Karlstad.
