The Spanish driver will be part of the French team in the 2021 season alongside the French Esteban Ocon.
Alonso returns to where he already played for two stages (2003-06 and 2008-09) and will fill the vacancy of the Australian Daniel Ricciardo from 2021, who next season will leave for McLaren to fill the position left by Carlos Sainz with his march to Ferrari.
Alonso has been out of Formula 1 since 2018, when he closed his second stage at McLaren, and will accompany Carlos Sainz as far as Spanish representation on the grid is concerned.
The Asturian decided to leave Formula 1, accumulating 17 seasons in the reigning motoring category with a record of two world titles, 32 victories, 22 ‘poles’ and 97 podiums. A temporary withdrawal that, as Renault announced this Wednesday, will conclude next year.
