Kylian Mbappe has been announced as the cover star of EA Sports’ FIFA 21 computer game.
The Paris Saint-Germain and France striker, 21, has emerged as one of the brightest stars in football in recent years.
He won the 2018 World Cup with France months after helping Monaco reach the Champions League semifinals and has since won three consecutive Ligue 1 titles with PSG.
Mbappe also won Ligue 1 with Monaco in 2017.
“Being on the cover of FIFA is a dream come true,” said Mbappe. “From my stay in Bondy to Clairefontaine at the World Cup, this marks another great milestone.
“I have been playing this game since I was a kid and am honored to represent an entire new generation of players and be in the same group as many other fantastic players with whom I now share this honor.”
Mbappe, who attracted the interest of Real Madrid and Liverpool with the expiration of his contract at PSG in 2022, said he had no intention of leaving the French champions.
“I’m here and I’m on this project for the fourth year,” he said. “This is the 50th year of the club and an important year in the eyes of the club, the fans and everyone.”
After scoring the initial goal in PSG’s 4-0 friendly victory over Celtic on Tuesday, Mbappe will return to competitive action when the Champions League returns in August.
PSG will face Atalanta in the quarterfinals on 12 August in Lisbon.
Meanwhile, in an unorthodox phase, Konami has announced that the next edition of their Pro Evolution Soccer game will not be a completely new title.
Instead, Pro Evo 2021 will be a “season update” of Pro Evo 2020 rather than a full game in its own right.
The decision was made since Konami is busy creating a new revised version of Pro Evo for the next generation of consoles, which means that 2021 will simply act as an update (for lists, kits, etc.) to 2020.
However, it is worth noting that PES 2020 owners will still have to purchase a standalone 2021 product to access the new content.
