“More bad news this afternoon on the Freethiel. A late result reached the club, which showed that one player tested positive for the corona virus, ”the club website reports.

“The club acts according to the protocol of the Pro League and sends the player in quarantine for seven days. The other players will also complete an individual running program tomorrow. The exhibition game against KV Mechelen will also not take place on Saturday. In consultation with the Pro League and AZ Delta, a new test moment will soon be organized. The club will not reveal the player’s identity and will not refrain from making any comments. ”

Earlier there were already two infections at Sporting Charleroi. Attackers Mamadou Fall and Younes Delfi tested positive. The Senegalese and the Iranian returned infected from their home country. In March, a member of the medical staff of Cercle Brugge already passed a positive test.

Protocol

On Wednesday evening, the Pro League passed the protocol for the mandatory corona testing of the players and the framework of the 24 professional football clubs. The corona tests will be carried out at least once a week by the AZ Delta labs in Roeselare and MB Next in Louvain-La-Neuve.

If someone tests positive, they are quarantined for seven days. What now also happened with the player of Waasland-Beveren. His teammates should not be automatically quarantined. After a positive test by a player, the rest of the team is retested the day after the competition match and the team must train with distance until the result of this test. If everyone then takes a negative test, normal training can be resumed.

Waasland-Beveren also received a blow on Thursday when the club was proven wrong by the Belgian Competition Authority (BMA). It saw an opportunity lost to play in 1A next year. The decision of the Pro League on 15 May to cancel the 30th day of play, which forced the East Flemish to drop, turned out not to be in violation of competition rules, the college of the BMA concluded.
