Patrice Evra explains why Paul Pogba needed Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United

Patrice Evra insisted that Paul Pogba was waiting for Manchester United to sign a “great player” and believes that the arrival of Bruno Fernandes has eased the weight on his shoulders.

The Frenchman has been in excellent shape since the Premier League started again, returning from the block without injuries after a six-month layoff.

With Pogba injured, Fernandes took the field after joining United in January, winning the Premier League Player of the Month award for February.

The pair started together for the first time during United’s 3-0 win over Sheffield United last week and lined up side by side for the second time against Brighton on Tuesday evening.

Evra, covering the game for Sky Sports, he said before kick-off that he believes Pogba has returned to action with a rejuvenated attitude because he was relieved by the arrival of Fernandes, who eased the pressure on him to be the main source of creativity in the United midfield .

“I think Paul was waiting for a great player to arrive,” said Evra. “We were putting too much pressure on Paul, and to be honest, you can see Paul smiling because Fernandes will also be responsible.

“I think Paul will play much better with Fernandes now.”
