Overview of transactions: Lovett, McCoy to the new teams; Chiefs cut off security

The day after the Kansas City Chiefs gave up six players to bring their active roster down to 80, they made another roster change – this time releasing former Florida Athletic University goalie Andrew Soroh.

Meanwhile, back H John Lovett – one of the players the Chiefs gave up on Wednesday – has been taken over by the Green Bay Packers. And a report from ESPN insider Adam Schefter revealed that another former Chiefs player was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Soroh and Lovett were both drafted into the squad as undrafted free agents in 2019. Soroh did not make the final roster, while Lovett spent the season on the injured reserve. After his release from the Buffalo Bills, LeSean McCoy was signed to the Chiefs just after the last cut of last season; after the team’s Super Bowl LIV victory, the Chiefs allowed them to walk in free will.

Soroh ended up with the XFL New York Guardians – and apparently knew he was heading for the Chiefs right after the NFL Draft in April. But he was not signed to the squad until they released wide receiver Felton Davis in early June.

Lovett – for whom the Chiefs had high hopes as a verastile, tight-toed hybrid full-back during the 2019 offseason – had been predicted by many to make the final roster in 2020. But it turned out the Chiefs apparently thought there was no place on their 80-man roster for the former Princeton quarterback.

McCoy started nine games during the Chiefs’ championship season, scoring six touchdowns while gaining 646 yards in scrum. But the typically safe 10-year-old running back also racked up three fumbles along the way, falling at the end of the season; he only got one shot during the team’s playoff run.

The Chiefs roster now has 79 players. Expect them to pick another player soon.
