Queensland Origin coach Kevin Walters has ruled out a move to the Brisbane Broncos to support the competitive coach Anthony Seibold.
Reporter Peter Badel revealed in The Courier-Mail that Seibold had broken a two-year silence with his former coaching colleague last week, but said Walters had no intention of playing a role at Red Hill this season.
Paul White, CEO of Brisbane, had signed a handshake agreement with Walters, under which the manager would take over the management of the Broncos after the 2018 season and then appoint Seibold.
Badel told Fox League NRL 360 that Seibold had contacted Walters in a “strange” and “compelling” phone call last week, but that the Maroons manager had no plans to help.

CLAUSE: Broncos have a termination option in Seibold’s contract
Badel said: “It was excluded by Kevin Walters. I spoke to him this morning and Kevvie tells me that there will be no fairytale comeback at least this season.
“There were some suggestions that he would be back in some role, perhaps as an assistant to Anthony Seibold.
“Anthony Seibold announced last week that he had contacted Kevin Walters. I was told that the content of this phone call was pretty convincing. They hadn’t spoken in two years.
“Anthony Seibold told Kevin Walters that he had received some feedback on Brisbane’s quota of origin, and he would like to help Kevvie with some feedback in this regard. But there was no formal job offer. “
The timing of Seibold’s icing call to the Origin trainer was questioned – as was his supposed offer to help Walters instead of asking for help.

Paul Kent said: “I wonder why after not having spoken to Kevin Walters for two years, Anthony Seibold would call him to give him feedback on his Origin players when I’m sure Kevvie has a TV and can see him himself. “
Badel explained: “This is a strategic element. Why would Seibold only call Kevvie 24 hours after a story with Kevin Walters saying that he would like to go back to the Broncos if someone turned to him?
“There is no doubt that there was a story with Kevvie Walters and Seibold. In the beginning it was positive stuff. Kevvie hired him as a Queensland Origin employee and did so for two years in 2016/17.
“Then they decided on the Broncos job and then fell out when Seibold hit Kevvie for the job. I find it strange (Seibold has now called Walters).
“Maybe it’s a bit of a Seibold olive branch, maybe to come back to Kevvie on the way, but I don’t think Kevvie is too keen to extend this favor. At least not this season. “
