Not too many details are known about Cam Newton’s deal with the New England Patriots, apart from the fact that he’s “incentive” and Bobby Bonilla got paid more than the quarterback on Wednesday than he will do this season.
We also know that New England has been reported to have a franchise day in 2021 for the 31-year-olds, and we’ve worked hard to break down the contract.
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports canceled the deal on Wednesday. Listen:
Cam Newton contract: 1 year minimum base of $ 1.05 million. Guaranteed only $ 550,000 when signed. Up to $ 6.45 million in incentives / bonus lists per game. And no clause that limits a 2021 franchise day. Patriots get a former MVP for less than many pay-backup OLs

This certainly seems like a no-brainer for New England.
Not surprisingly, most of the money Newton can earn is based on incentives, especially as he will try to prove his worth after being injured in the past two seasons.
