This summer’s transfer window promises to be very different from what we’ve seen recently.
Given the corona virus crisis that is affecting finances across the football world and beyond, clubs need to get creative as they plan and plan their approach to the 2020/21 season.
Some teams – with Chelsea being the obvious example – appear to be flying despite all restrictions, as the Blues have already secured Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner’s signings for the new campaign.
However, others seem to have been forced to rethink their plans. The new Premier League champion Liverpool has given up his own switch for Werner and appears to be ready to examine the market closely before taking any steps this summer.
The Reds have been associated with a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara. Manchester United are also said to be interested in the former Barcelona player.
United have other goals, of course, with Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish also high on their list of potential summer recruits as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer targets both a central defender and a center forward to improve his Champions League squad.
There will certainly also be major club spending as the teams plan to make changes before hoping that a more conventional season is on the horizon.
