Naomi Osaka will play at the US Open, says the management team

Naomi Osaka will play in the US Open next month in New York, the 2018 champion management team told Reuters.

Numerous media reports claimed that he had not registered for the tournament and had decided to skip the event, which will begin on August 31 and will be played according to strict biosecurity protocols due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the 22-year-old management team told Reuters via email that the reports were widespread and that she would participate in Flushing Meadows.

Osaka would also have played in the Western and Southern Open, held every year in Cincinnati but was moved to New York this year and is expected to begin in mid-August.

Thursday earlier, world number one Ash Barty said he was skipping New York tournaments because of concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.

Osaka, which is based in the United States, last played tennis in early February during the Fed Cup qualifiers against Spain.
