More than 4,000 coronavirus tests in F1 are negative

SPIELBERG, AUSTRIA – No positive cases of more than 4,000 coronavirus tests have been carried out on Formula 1 employees in the past seven days, F1 announced on Saturday.

The F1 had its first race on Sunday in Austria, four months after the opening race in Australia was canceled and the season was postponed.

Everyone who entered the track at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg must have had a negative test before starting the trip. All – from the driver to the team members to the track staff and the media – are tested every five days by private medical teams on site.

“The FIA and Formula 1 can confirm today that between Friday, June 26th and Thursday, July 2nd, 4,032 drivers, teams and employees were tested on COVID-19. Of these, zero people tested positive”, F1 said in a statement. “The FIA or Formula 1 do not disclose specific team or individual details, and the results are published every seven days.”

There will be another race in Austria next weekend. The following race will be held a week later at the Hungaroring in Hungary.

Eight races are held in Europe. After Hungary there are two races in a row at the British GP, then individual races in Spain, Belgium and Italy.

FIA President Jean Todt said Saturday that talks with F1 owner and rights holder Liberty Media will continue for the rest of the season. The F1 continues to hope to host 15-18 of the original 22 races by postponing some of the races that have been postponed. The season ends in December in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.

“More details will be announced shortly,” said Todt.
